Motifs and designs, be it on the walls of a palace or a modest tribal hut can now be worn in scarves.
Migrant patuas, or scroll painters, converged around Kalighat temple in Kolkata early in the 18th century to give rise to a new school. For over a hundred years the pilgrims offered a ready market for the pats. A majority of the Kalighat pats treated religious and traditional subjects, but the introduction of secular themes is of great interest now. Seen on this scarf are fish attending a wedding!
