Motifs and designs, be it on the walls of a palace or a modest tribal hut can now be worn in scarves.

Kolams are a form of floor art practiced mainly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and some parts of Goa and Maharashtra. These geometrical line drawings are composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. Traditionally female Hindu family members use rice powder to decorate the entrances to their homes every morning. On special occasions, complex Kolams like the one seen on this scarf are drawn.
