Gonds are a tribe from central India. Their art can be traced back to more than 2000 years ago. The specialty of Gond's paintings lies in the simple yet imaginative representation of the day-to-day lives of rural people. The paintings capture nature, festivals, and folklore in vivid colours and dramatic forms. Traditionally, the women painted them on walls using colours made from charcoal, coloured soil, plant sap, leaves, and cow dung.
A part of our Gond art collection - these elephants and cows were drawn by Kailash Pradhan and Mangru Uike
