Miniature paintings trace back to the 16th century. Two master artists from the Persian court accompanied exiled Mughal emperor Humayun when he returned to reclaim his throne. Indian artists were trained by the Persian masters. Elements of Persian miniatures blended with traditional Indian motifs, flowering into the distinctive School of Miniature Paintings. The art form flourished under Rajput and Mughal patronage and continues to thrive, as is seen in this stylised rendering of a garden or Vatika, by artist Hemant Kumawat.
