Motifs and designs be it on the walls of a palace or a modest tribal hut can now be worn in scarves.
Hawa Mahal in Jaipur is perhaps the most photographed Indian monument next only to the Taj Mahal. This story Palace of Winds was designed by Lal Chand Usta as a naturally air-conditioned viewing gallery for the purdahed women of the palace. Located on a main street of the Pink City its honeycomb facade of 953 latticed windows allowed the royal women to see the pageantry below without being seen themselves. The palace was built by Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 and is shaped like the crown of Lord Krishna with many a corridor, stairways, and rooms. Seen on this scarf is a detail from a painted door panel in Hawa Mahal.
This exquisite silk and cotton blended scarf is soft and light and has been handwoven by the weavers of Chanderi.
