Gonds are a tribe from central India. Their art can be traced back to more than 2000 years ago. The speciality of Gond paintings lies in the simple yet imaginative representation of the day-to-day lives of rural people. The paintings capture nature, festivals and folklore in vivid colours and dramatic forms. Traditionally, the women painted them on walls using colours made from charcoal, coloured soil, plant sap, leaves and cow dung.
